“P ainting Lights” is the first exhibition ever to address these issues. It is well known that the Impressionists were pioneers in painting, creating a new, free style that captured life outdoors with quick and masterful brushstrokes – a world away from the careful and contrived studio masterpieces of the salon painters of the mid-19th century. What is less known is that the Impressionists were not only pioneers in style, but in technique. This show – drawn from one of Germany’s largest collections of Impressionists, the Corboud Foundation in Cologne – exclusively deals with the painting techniques of the Impressionists and Postimpressionists and will be held at Palazzo Strozzi.

Miro' in Taormina

In the beautiful Church of Carmine, there will be an exhibit of 63 rare etchings and lithographs dating from 1960 to 1980 by the Catalan artist Joan Mirò. The art exhibit is presented by Taormina Arte in collaboration with the Maeght Gallery and is personally curated by Isabelle Maeght. The relationship between the Maeght Foundation and Joan Mirò was very unique. As it was noted, the gallery owner, Aime Maeght, was not only a close friend of Mirò’s, but also his exclusive art vendor for Europe until 1947. The extraordinary and unique testimony of their stainless rapport are Mirò’s etchings specifically created for the Maeght Foundation.

The fifteenth century in Roma

The exhibition investigates town planning and the social, religious and artistic aspects of Roma in the Fifteenth century when, attracted by the rich Papal commissioning and arising innovative cultural environment, the most important artists poured into the city throughout the entire Italian Renaissance period starting from Donatello, Brunelleschi and Leon Battista Alberti whose theoretical works were inspired by ancient Roma. Amongst the artists displayed are Gentile da Fabriano, Mantegna, Perugino, Piero della Francesca, Pinturicchio, Filippo Lippi, and even Michelangelo who actually started his extraordinary career in Roma during the fifteenth century.

Coming of Age explores the complex and extended process of maturation that took place throughout this formative century of American art. The selection of works offers a comprehensive look at the major developments in a period of one hundred years marked by the rise of modernity and by a dramatic change in the physical and social landscape. Coming of Age, American Art, 1850s to 1950s is organized by the American Federation of Arts, New York, and the Addison Gallery of American Art, and it’s made possible, in part, by The Crosby Kemper Foundation and by Frank B. Bennett and William D. Cohan, with additional support from the Philip and Janice Levin Foundation Fund, Collection-Based Exhibitions at the American Federation of Arts.
