In 1958 the Italian-born American composer and librettist Giancarlo Menotti, twice winner of the Pulitzer award, realized the dream of his life: the festival of the two worlds. The name came from the creator’s intention to gather the European and American scenes. The city chosen to host the event was Spoleto, located in the region of Umbria, for its beauty, its richness of suggestive theatrical venues and its closeness to Rome. .The unique atmosphere of free expression of aesthetical, ideological, religious and political tendencies, together with the natural and architectural beauty of Spoleto, attracted throughout the years the biggest names of the entertainment and the jet-set: Visconti, De Filippo, Valli, Russell, Zeffirelli, Rossellini, Williams, Rota, Polansky, Scorzese, Pound, Gassman, Pavarotti, Domingo, Garcia and many others.
Magritte - The Mystery of Nature
www.mostramagritte.it
The beautiful rooms of Palazzo Reale in Milan will house the works of one of the most important and original figures of Surrealism, René Magritte. As preannounce in the title of the event, “The mystery of Nature”, about a hundred works will highlight the artist’s relationship with nature, seen not as a petty manifest phenomenon, but as a fleeting mystery to investigate. The exhibition aims at commending the creative genius of one of the rare nineteenth century artists who dealt with the theme of nature, placing it at the centre of his research, relating it with the limits and the undertones of contemporary reality. The Belgian painter’s approach to the theme of Nature will be investigated according to a chronological order, marked by his different creative steps and by the maturation of his expressive language, starting from the first and sometimes hardly known paintings of the phase of futuristic research passing on to the most mysterious and gloomy images from the period between the two Wars, arriving at the most known products from the Fifties onwards.
